ABO system blood types of leprosy patients

Abstract
|

|
A study was made on the determination of ABO blood types of .4, 000 leprosy patients at the Sorok-do Leprosarium in 1952 in order to elucidate certain features of ABO blood groupings, ie., the distribution of ABO blood types among the patients, relationship between the blood type and the type of leprosy, and the blood type by sex.
1. ABO blood grouping of 4, 000 leprosy patients was as follows;
A type; 1, 262 (31.55%) B type; 1,130 (28.25%) AB type; 723 (18.08%) o type; 885 (22.13%)
2. There observed a tendency of occurence of greater number of lepromatous type of leprosy than that of neural type of the disease in AB blood type. However, in 0 type group, there occurred more neural type of leprosy than lepromatous type of disease.
3. The data were compared and discussed with the other reports made on blood types of normal population and leprosy patients.
